Funding of Public TV
Regarding our underwriting of a public-TV broadcast on Oriental rugs, we feel Bernstein is wrong in putting our support in the same category as the appearance of Bob Vila (former host of “This Old House”) in commercials related to construction and renovation.
We also feel it was unnecessary to raise the issue of our using the KCET logo; it is clear that there was permission granted for its use.
We underwrote the program to educate the public. As mentioned to Bernstein in her short phone interview, we have participated in or arranged many education programs at other public institutions.
To portray a small business as an abuser of a relationship merely on the basis of its promoting a program through its private mailing list and use of media is naive journalism and scapegoating.
