GYMNASTICS NCAA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS : Oregon State’s Selig Wins 2 Titles
Joy Selig of Oregon State, cheered on by an adoring near-capacity home crowd at Corvallis, Ore., won individual titles in the balance beam and floor exercise Saturday night at the NCAA women’s gymnastics meet.
The 5-foot-1 junior from Placerville, Calif., who was balance beam co-champion last year, won the event with a 9.875.
Later, she scored a 9.9 in the floor exercise, equaling her career high and tying the NCAA championships record score for the event.
Marie Roethlisberger of Minnesota won the title in the uneven bars at 9.875 and Michele Bryant of Nebraska took the vaulting title with an NCAA championship record 9.850.
Utah edged Alabama by .425 points for the team title.
Defending champion Georgia was third with 193.225 and UCLA was fourth at 193.100.
