P. M. BRIEFING : Whirlpool Plans 1 Overseas Unit
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corp. said today that it is combining several units into one subsidiary that will handle marketing outside North America and Europe.
The new unit, Whirlpool Overseas Corp., will combine the company’s Benton Harbor-based export sales group with its overseas business group in Comerio, Italy. It will also include four wholly owned sales companies in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Australia, the company said.
Appliances marketed by the overseas group include KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Roper, Ignis, Bauknecht and those carrying the dual Whirlpool and Philips brand.
Whirlpool manufactures appliances in 10 countries and markets them in 45. The company reported consolidated net earnings of $187.2 million on consolidated net revenues of $6.29 billion in 1989.
