BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Injury Suspends Palos Verdes Game
Thursday’s Bay League baseball game between Beverly Hills and Palos Verdes high schools was suspended in the first inning when Beverly Hills second baseman Jason Goldberg was knocked unconscious in a collision with a teammate.
Goldberg ran into right fielder Robby Wells chasing a shallow fly ball by Palos Verdes’ Tryon Liesy with one out in the top of the first. Palos Verdes Coach Gil Eberhard said Goldberg was unconscious for “at least a half hour” before he was taken away by paramedics.
Beverly Hills Coach Bill Erickson said Goldberg was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in West Hollywood, where he was diagnosed with a severe concussion and ligament damage to his neck. Erickson said Goldberg will probably remain hospitalized through the weekend.
The game will be resumed at the point of suspension at 3 p.m. today at Beverly Hills with runners on second and third and Palos Verdes leading, 3-0.
