Countywide : Drought in County Called State’s Worst
Only about six inches of rain fell in Ventura County this season, 34% of the average rainfall in non-drought years, according to statistics released by the county’s Flood Control Department.
The county had less rain between November and April than in any of the past four drought years, the report said. The normal average rainfall for the county is 17.12 inches.
Last year, the countywide average was 57% of normal. Two years ago, it was 92% and three years ago it was 45%.
Port Hueneme has the lowest rainfall in the county, with only 3.25 inches total.
County hydrologist Dolores Taylor said Ventura County is experiencing the most severe drought of any county in the state, according to the published figures.
