World heavyweight boxing champion James (Buster) Douglas said today he has signed a multimillion-dollar agreement to lend his name to a home video game, his first commercial deal since taking the title in a stunning upset of Mike Tyson.

The boxing game will be created by Sega of America Inc., a subsidiary of Japan’s Sega Enterprises Ltd., and will pit Douglas against Tyson, who has lent his name to a video game marketed by Nintendo.

“We’re going to knock Nintendo out of the video game market,” Douglas said in a statement released by the company.

San Francisco-based Sega of America, which markets the Genesis video game system, said the agreement gives the company exclusive worldwide rights to Douglas in arcade games, portable games and computer software in addition to home video systems. The exact dollar amount of the agreement was not revealed.
