Man Killed in Crash Involving Officer
A car driven by an off-duty policeman collided with another auto in a Granada Hills intersection, killing a Pacoima man riding in the other car, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.
Randy Spedale, 21, was killed at 11 p.m. Monday when the car in which he was a passenger turned left off Devonshire Street onto Hayvenhurst Avenue and was struck by an oncoming car, Sgt. Ray Lombardo said.
Spedale was a passenger in a car driven by Michelle Miller, 19, of Granada Hills, police said. The oncoming car was driven by Officer Michael Goosby, 21, of Northridge, who was on his way to work at the Devonshire Division station in Northridge. Miller and Goosby both suffered slight injuries and were treated at Holy Cross Medical Center and released.
Police said the accident was still under investigation Tuesday and traffic bureau detectives were seeking witnesses. Lombardo said that although Miller had turned in front of Goosby’s car, it was unclear if the traffic signal at the intersection was red.
“There may have been a red-light violation, but on whose part we don’t know yet,” Lombardo said.
