Gerrymandering in California and Merits of Props. 118, 119
Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) has reached new heights of cynicism with his claim that a non-binding advisory commission on redistricting would put such “pressure” on legislators that they would have to come up with reasonable boundaries, so therefore, Propositions 118 and 119 are not necessary (Part A, May 9).
Speaker Brown should be reminded that pressure from the people for property tax reform and the death penalty brought no action from the Legislature!
Without the initiative process, the people of this state would be totally powerless.
