ORANGE : $600,000 in Federal Grants Awarded
The City Council has awarded more than $600,000 in federal grants to 12 community service organizations and city agencies.
About 56% of the total grant money went to city agencies for street reconstruction and waterline replacement in Old Towne and El Modena.
The remainder was awarded to nonprofit social service agencies for capital improvements, rehabilitation and staff and operating costs.
Agencies receiving grants include YWCA Fair Housing Services, Mariposa Women’s Center, Orangewood Children’s Home, El Modena Service Committee and the city Water and Public Works Department.
The Community Development Block Grants for 1990-91, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, are designed to serve moderate- and low-income residents.
