COUNTYWIDE : Beach Campgrounds Full for Holiday
Ventura County’s beach campgrounds are full for Memorial Day weekend, but room is still available at many inland camping areas, parks officials said Thursday.
The 852 spaces in the four beach campgrounds under county jurisdiction and the three under the state’s control were full Thursday, officials said.
Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Lake Casitas Recreation Area and Lake Piru Recreation Area, said Pam Gallo, the county’s parks operations supervisor.
Campers may also find room at Foster Park, Steckel Park near Santa Paula and Oaks County Park in Simi Valley, she said.
The seven developed campgrounds in the Los Padres National Forest in the Ojai District also may have sites available, spokesman Jean Arrington said. Other camping areas in the forest are primitive and accessible only to hikers.
Park officials said they expect most of the available campsites to be occupied by the start of the weekend, when last-minute campers arrive.
