CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : BAY AREA : Mandela Adds One Last Stop
South African anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela has added the Bay Area to his 10-day U.S. tour, organizers announced Friday. After visiting Los Angeles on June 29, Mandela will go to the Bay Area the next day, the final day of his U.S. tour, said David Fenton, president of a Washington-based public relations firm handling the visit. Fenton attributed the added stop to the “tremendous demand” for Mandela’s presence. He said it had not yet been decided which Bay Area cities he will visit. Oakland, San Francisco and Berkeley have invited the 71-year-old deputy president of the African National Congress. Mandela will arrive in New York on June 20. He will also travel to Washington, Boston, Atlanta, Miami and Detroit.
