Questioning Badham

As a voter and a Republican, I was outraged at some of the statements attributed to Phyllis Badham regarding her race against Assemblyman Ferguson in the Republican primary (“Where Badham, Ferguson Part Company,” May 14).

She condemns Ferguson for “not working with” the Democrats in Sacramento. Badham, who claims support from the AFL-CIO, evidently cares more about working with (Assembly Speaker) Willie Brown and his liberal cronies than carrying on the Reagan Revolution.

Badham claims that the 70th District is “strongly” pro-choice, as if to imply that Republicans vote on the basis of a single issue. She also hides or isn’t aware of the fact that the California Supreme Court has held abortion to be part of our state Constitution. That means only the voters can change that, not legislators.

She also scoffs at the county Republican Party’s code of ethics and refuses to sign it, and then has the nerve to say she is “running an ethical, honest campaign.” She was evidently honest and ethical enough not to pay her consultant, Robert Kiley, for services rendered. He is now suing her for monies owed.

If Badham wants to go to Sacramento so much, why doesn’t she move back to Los Angeles and register as a Democrat? Now there’s a primary she deserves to win, and, with her liberal views, she just might win it!
