Fullerton : Three Deans Named by CSUF President

Cal State Fullerton President Jewel Plummer Cobb on Wednesday announced the appointment of three deans to fill longstanding vacancies at the schools of Business Administration, Engineering and Natural Science.

Ephraim P. Smith was named dean of the university’s School of Business Administration and Economics.

Smith, who currently heads Cleveland State University’s College of Business Administration, has a doctorate in accounting from the University of Illinois. He has published 50 articles in professional publications and three textbooks, two of which he co-authored.

Andy R. Bazar has been selected to head the School of Engineering and Computer Science. Bazar has been chairman of the industrial and manufacturing engineering department at Cal Poly Pomona since 1983.

Bazar is a fellow of the Institute for Advancement of Engineering and is widely regarded as an expert in computer-integrated manufacturing and applied ergonomics. He holds a doctorate in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University.

Cobb named Kolf O. Jayaweera dean of the School of Natural Science and Mathematics. A physics professor, he is dean of the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. From 1978 to 1979, he served as associate program director for meteorology for the National Science Foundation in Washington.

The appointment of all three deans is effective June 28.
