The California Fish and Game Commission will convene a special meeting in Sacramento Monday to fire Executive Secretary Hal Cribbs, generally considered to be the second most powerful fish and game official in the state, next to Pete Bontadelli, director of the Department of Fish and Game.

The commission, under fire with its own future in doubt, apparently blames Cribbs for its ongoing troubles with the Legislature, which has nine bills pending that would alter or eliminate the commission’s role in managing the state’s living natural resources.

The hearing is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., with Cribbs testifying on his own behalf.
