Astronomy Books for Kids

Parents might consider these books for the budding child astronomer:

* “The Big Dipper and You” (Morrow Junior Books: $13.95) by E.C. Krupp, director of Griffith Observatory. How to find this most famous constellation, and what else you can locate in the night sky using the Big Dipper as a guide. Ages 7 and up.

* “The Glow-in-the-Dark Night Sky Book” (Random House: $9.95) by Clint Hatchett. When you expose the book’s star maps--more than 30 constellations’ worth--to a source of light, the ink glows in the dark and shows what to look for in the sky. All ages.

* “The Night Sky” (Running Press: $9.95) by Dennis Mammana, astronomer at Reuben H. Fleet Space Theater and Science Center in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Information and activities for sky explorers ages 8 and up.
