WORLD : Man Missing in Niagara Falls
A man who paddled a kayak over Niagara Falls in a stunt he had planned for 10 years was still missing today and officials searched for his body.
Jessie Sharp, 28, of Ocoee, Tenn., paddled along the brink of the 172-foot falls at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday as dozens of tourists watched, Niagara Parks Police Staff Sgt. Fred Hollidge said.
Several tourists videotaped Sharp’s 15-story plunge on personal camcorders.
“Our regular patrol is watching the river,” Sgt. Jim Dugos said. He said police can’t dive there to look for a body.
Hollidge said his department had no advance warning someone would attempt the stunt. “It took us completely by surprise,” he said. “If I had known that, I would have made every effort to stop him.”
