FLORENCE, Italy — The United Arab Emirates players have each been promised a Rolls-Royce if they win the World Cup, a feat bettors consider the least likely of all probabilities.

Italian players have been told they will receive $300,000 per man if they can win the cup for an unprecedented fourth time, and West Germans have been guaranteed $90,000 per man if they win.

Brazil’s players, when they were told they would get a $6,000 bonus as champions, protested at the team photo session by wearing their shorts inside-out and folding their arms to cover the name of the federation’s sponsor on their shirts. They were immediately appeased with promises they would get 25% of the federation’s take, after expenses.
