ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Cyclist Michael Secrest, 37, of Scottsdale, Ariz., finished the Race Across America Sunday in a record time of 7 days 23 hours 16 minutes.
Secrest rode out of Huntington Beach on June 16 and made the 2,816-mile trip to Atlantic City.
Secrest, a native of Flint, Mich., broke the previous Race Across America record of 8 days 9 hours 45 minutes set in August of 1989 by Paul Solon.
Secrest said the solo race, his seventh bicycle trip across the United States, was also his last.
“It’s a tough race,” he said. “There’s no getting around that.”
Secrest also won the Race Across America in 1987 and finished second in 1989.
