Ford Reaches Labor Settlement in Mexico: Ford Motor Co.’s six-month-long labor dispute has been resolved. About 550 workers who lost their jobs as a result of intra-union fighting will receive severance pay slightly above the legal minimum, under the settlement. Ford closed the plant near Mexico City after a fatal shooting in January and began selectively calling back the factory’s 3,800 workers a month later. Workers who refused reinstatement filed claims with the Federal Labor Relations Board, which arbitrated the settlement. Workers will receive their money--three months’ pay plus 32 days’ pay for each year of seniority--upon withdrawing their claims.
