Martin Marietta Wins Order From Postal Service

BETHESDA, Md. — Martin Marietta Corp. said it won a $138-million U.S. Postal Service contract to produce 614 automated sorting machines.
The machine was developed jointly by Martin Marietta Information Systems Group and National Presort Inc. of Dallas. NPI designs and develops automated mail-processing equipment.
Martin Marietta Information Systems Group will produce the machines at its new manufacturing facility in Albuquerque, N.M. First delivery will be in late summer of 1991.
Martin Marietta said this is the its second production contract for mail-sorting machines. In October 1989, it won a U.S. Postal Service contract to produce 267 sorting machines for flat mail. That $51-million contract also included an option for 200 additional flat sorting machines.
