Compton : High-Density Apartment Complex for Seniors OKd

A 64-unit apartment complex for low-income senior citizens has been approved by the City Council, despite opposition from the Planning Commission and two council members.
The four-story complex, to be on Hickory Avenue just south of Rosecrans Avenue, will be four times the development density allowed in that neighborhood. Normally, only 17 units would be allowed on the 44,000-square-foot parcel.
Councilman Maxcy D. Filer and Councilwoman Jane Robbins voted during the council’s special meeting Monday to uphold the Planning Commission’s veto of the project.
It is being built by the congregation of the Curry Temple Church.
