SAN CLEMENTE : Fair Will Focus on Child Identification

A fair offering free fingerprinting, photographing and videotaping sessions will be held today in an effort to give police a head start in trying to find missing children.

According to event organizer Lorrie Miller, fingerprints, hair samples and clothing descriptions can make a big difference when police are looking for abducted children.

“Most parents just have a school picture of their child from the waist up. But we will be getting full-length pictures to show what the child really looks like,” said Miller, who organized the fair after attending a similar event in Newport Beach. “With this program, the police can have a 24-hour head start on finding a child.”

Also offered at the fair will be dental identification exams, height measurements, collection of fingernail and hair clippings and “trace code journals” in which parents can list every birthmark, scar or characteristic that might distinguish their child.

In addition, members of the San Clemente Police Department and Fire Department will be on hand to answer questions.
