Braxston Banks had his day in court, challenging NCAA eligibility rules that block his return to Notre Dame and college football.

After hearing 90 minutes of arguments, U.S. District Judge Robert L. Miller Jr. promised a decision by this morning in South Bend, Ind.

Banks is challenging NCAA rules requiring players to sacrifice remaining eligibility for entering the NFL draft or contacting an agent. Banks did both last spring, but was not drafted.

His lawyers’ request for class action status, if granted, could broaden the effect of a Banks victory. There are 20 players with eligibility remaining who entered the 1990 draft, but were not chosen.
