Weekend Closure of Westwood Streets Starts

Weekend closure of Westwood Village’s thoroughfares to vehicles took effect Friday night, prompting anxiety from local merchants concerned about the effect the restrictions would have on the popular entertainment district.

Although a number of side streets have been closed on weekends for the last year, City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky announced Wednesday the weekend night closures would be expanded for longer hours and include some main streets, a decision intended to ease the crowded and sometimes unruly conditions in the village.

The new closures, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, include Westwood Boulevard between Wilshire Boulevard and Le Conte Avenue, Kinross Avenue between Gayley and Glendon avenues, Weyburn Avenue between Glendon and Gayley and Broxton Avenue from Le Conte to Wilshire.
