Michigan Governor Drops Running Mate From Ticket

LANSING, Mich. —
Lt. Gov. Martha Griffiths, who served in Congress for 20 years and was a force behind passage of the equal rights amendment, has been dropped from the 1990 ticket by Gov. James J. Blanchard.
Blanchard praised Griffiths, 78, as “the premier stateswoman,” but said Friday he asked her to step aside because he no longer considers her ready to assume the governor’s post at a moment’s notice.
