La Jolla Country Day 68, Marian 0--Junior tailback Rashaan Salaam set a Section record by scoring seven touchdowns, including two on punt returns of 52 and 44 yards, and five more on running plays of 15, four, three, and two from one yard. La Jolla Country Day’s Keith Winkler scored seven touchdowns and scored on a two-point conversion in 1985, but that was when LJCD played eight-man football. Salaam ran for 131 yards on 15 carries and returned three punts for 131 yards. LJCD, 2-0, scored six touchdowns last year against Midway Baptist, also in an eight-man game. Marian fell to 0-2.

Helix 30, Valhalla 0--Jarrett Parr rushed 17 times for 211 yards and touchdowns of 13, 30 and 18 yards to lead Helix (2-0). Kenny Carter rushed seven times for 61 yards and a 33-yard touchdown. The defense added a safety when Ed Messina sacked Rob Reid in the end zone. Valhalla is 1-1.

San Pasqual 28, Mt. Carmel 6--Mike Walters ran for 96 yards in 16 carries and scored a touchdown for San Pasqual (1-1). Teammate Cullen Owen, who ran 11 yards for a score, rushed for 51 yards in 11 carries. San Pasqual quarterback Billy Geddes ran for 63 yards and went two for two with a 13-yard touchdown pass. No. 7 Mt. Carmel dropped to 1-1.

Chula Vista 15, Vista 14--Steve Gomez ran for a two-point conversion with 36 seconds to play to lift Chula Vista (1-1) over Vista (0-2). Dante White scored on an 80-yard run and finished with 187 yards in 15 carries for Chula Vista.

Castle Park 46, Christian 7--Castle Park got two rushing touchdowns each from Damien Holmes and Sean King and shut out Christian the final three quarters to improve to 1-1. Castle Park also scored on a 37-yard interception return by Gred Slagstad and a 35-yard pass from Marcus Darden to Dujuan Franklin. Christian fell to 1-1.

Rancho Bernardo 20, Coronado 7--Josh Stang completed just two passes, but both went for touchdowns - 12 yards to Chad Sixt and 11 yards to Brian Busby - to give the Broncos (1-1) their first-ever victory. RB’s John Verber recovered a fumble in the end zone and Adam Smith scored on a 53-yard interception return for Coronado (1-1). RB rushed 42 times for 236 yards.

Carlsbad 24, University City 6--Will Barch had 20 carries for 160 yards and three touchdowns for Carlsbad (2-0). Garrett Sand ran 25 yards for University City’s lone touchdown. UC is now 1-1.

Southwest 45, Serra 0--Riley Washington ran for touchdowns of 70, 10 and 50 yards to lead Southwest (1-1). Junior Ochoa added two rushing touchdowns for Southwest, which got interceptions from James Knuth and Jerry Racette. Willie Tolliver had five catches for 110 yards for Serra.

Poway 17, El Camino 14--Poway quarterback Tom Fischer completed only five of 20 passes but made the completions count, connecting with wide receiver Damian Richey for touchdowns of 49 and 66 yards. Richey, a junior, finished with three catches for 142 yards, and Trent Harris gained 138 yards on 20 carries to lead Poway, 2-0. El Camino fell to 0-2 despite running back Von Robinson’s 200 yards on 22 carries.

Granite Hills 15, Santana 13--Tom Fordham kicked his second field goal of the game, a 20-yarder with two minutes remaining, to give Granite Hills (1-1) the victory. Mark Svyerson scored Granite Hills’ touchdown on a one-yard run. Santana fell to 0-2.

Montgomery 21, Compton Centenial 8--Rodney Davenport caught a 21-yard pass from Chuck Acuna to score Montgomery’s first of three second-quarter touchdowns. Acuna then completed an eight-yard pass to Saul Rodriguez for a touchdown. Acuna completed eight of 19 passes for 123 yards for Montgomery (1-1).

Grossmont 34, El Capitan 0--Jason Eskridge scored twice for sixth-ranked Grossmont, which opened its season at El Capitan (0-2). Eskridge led all rushers with 115 yards on 16 carries, scoring on a 55-yard run and a 15-yard pass from Tom Karlos. Karlos completed three passes in 10 attempts for 45 yards and two touchdowns. Grossmont rushed 36 times for 192 yards. Todd Cady scored on a 15-yard interception.

Fallbrook 27, San Marcos 7--Craig Person, who returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown last week, returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, and Tony Burton rushed for two more to lead the Warriors (2-0). Robbie Cosner completed 11 of 14 passes for one touchdown. Mark Frazier rushed 25 times for 174 yards and a one-yard touchdown for San Marcos (1-1).

San Diego 28, Clairemont 12--Brian Broxson had three fumble recoveries and Andre Ponce two pass interceptions as San Diego improved to 2-0. Clairemont, despite a 104-yard rushing performance and touchdown runs of 40 and 30 yards by Antoine Henry, slipped to 0-2.

Orange Glen 24, Escondido 0--Brian Kooiman ran for 67 yards on five carries, including two touchdowns at Escondido (1-1). Quarterback Omar Navaro completed 16 passes on 25 attempts for 195 yards and two touchdowns for Orange Glen (1-1).
