For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week: * When planting bulbs this fall, keep color combination in mind. White tulips, violet anemones and golden ranunculus are sensational.

* The fall months are the best time to transplant shrubs or give the garden a new look by replacing established shrubs with those that flower in spring, have colorful, full foliage, need less water or have berries.

* Add fall leaves to your compost pile to enrich your soil and make plants grow better.

* Fall is planting time in California. You can plant just about anything from a new lawn to trees, shrubs, annuals, bulbs and perennials.
