Ferrari Alleges Patent Infringement by Upland Firm: The Italian auto maker filed a patent infringement lawsuit against an Upland, Calif., company that sells sports cars built from kits. The federal suit by Ferrari SPA Esercizio seeks to stop Magnum Exotic Conversions from selling the kits, which Ferrari asserts are knockoffs of its Testarossas and Ferrari F-40s, 308s and 328s. Ferrari maintains that its sleek sports cars are “inherently distinctive” and that the F-40’s design is patented. Ferrari contends that Magnum’s line of sports cars is likely to diminish the image of the Italian autos. The suit seeks an injunction prohibiting Magnum from selling the cars.
