Robbery Suspect Held After Police Chase
A suspected robber was arrested Wednesday after a car chase with police ended when his car crashed into a fire hydrant and a light pole in North Hollywood, Los Angeles police said.
Detective Raymond Rueda said the suspect, Yoon Hong, 18, of Rialto, suffered minor injuries in the 1:15 a.m. crash at Vineland Avenue and Bluffside Drive. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Police said officers on routine patrol came upon a street robbery in progress about 1 a.m. near Silver Lake and Sunset boulevards.
The officers saw three young men robbing a fourth man; the robbers ran in different directions when they saw the police car, Rueda said.
One of the men ran to a car and sped north on the Hollywood Freeway with the patrol car in pursuit. The vehicle left the freeway at Vineland Avenue and the driver turned the vehicle’s headlights off, police reported.
The car went out of control at Bluffside Drive and struck the fire hydrant and light pole.
Hong was treated at the scene by paramedics and was being held at the Northeast Station jail, police said. Police were still looking for the other two men. The name of the victim was not released.
