Buena drove quickly to the Oxnard eight-yard line, but Yellowjacket lineman Armando Salazar put an end to the threat by sacking Jim Seguine at the 20 with 35 seconds left in the half.

A 30-yard completion from Seguine to running back Dan Lemp on a fake punt kept a first-quarter drive alive for Buena (1-4, 1-1). Three plays later, Seguine hit tight end Jeff Prieto with a 13-yard touchdown.
