Long Beach : Farmers Market Will Move to Promenade, Add Crafts
Farmers Market, for more than a decade a weekly fixture at Cedar Avenue between Broadway and 3rd Street in downtown Long Beach, is relocating. Beginning this Friday the colorful open-air market, at which food and flower vendors sell their wares, will be held at the Promenade North near the Long Beach Plaza Mall.
“The idea is to increase patronage both for the market and for downtown,” said Pat Phillips, public relations director for the Downtown Long Beach Associates, a group of business people working with the city’s Redevelopment Agency to effect the move.
Once at the promenade, she said, the market will be more centrally located, have more parking places and have more space for expansion. To attract more people, Phillips said, the market will be expanded to include local arts and crafts as well as musical entertainment.
The entertainment will begin this Friday, she said, with an appearance by the Pandemonium Steel Drum Band from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
