Valley Center
A 36-year-old man was killed late Wednesday and a second was wounded during a robbery at a residential construction site in Valley Center.
Six men, four of whom were laborers who lived in a barn on the site, were socializing at the barn in the 15000 block of Villa Sierra Lane, according to Sheriff’s Lt. John Tenwolde.
A man and woman drove onto the property shortly after 9 p.m. and confronted two of the men with a handgun. The man demanded money and took $90, Tenwolde said.
The victim, whose identity was not disclosed pending notification of relatives in Mexico, and Elias Ortiz Hernandez, 23, who lived at the site, heard the commotion and advanced toward the gunman. The Mexican man was shot and died at the scene. Ortiz was wounded in the left thigh.
