PREP CROSS-COUNTRY ROUNDUP : Niednagel Paces No. 2 Dana Hills
Daniel Niednagel of Dana Hills High School was timed in 15 minutes 28 seconds over three miles to lead the second-ranked team in Orange County past San Clemente, 19-38, in a South Coast League boys’ cross-country meet Thursday at Dana Hills.
Brendan Sullivan (15:54) finished second for Dana Hills, which is 4-0 in league meets.
San Clemente’s Josh Crocker (16:18) was third.
In another South Coast League boys’ meet:
Irvine 15, Capistrano Valley 46--Dan Meader (16:25) and Erik Miller (16:39) led an Irvine sweep of the first six places. It was the first dual-meet victory this season for host Irvine (1-3).
In South Coast League girls’ meets:
San Clemente 27, Dana Hills 30--Teri Smythers (18:53) and Jena Metzger (19:08) finished first and second, respectively, for San Clemente (2-2). Rajai Espinoza (19:17) was third for Dana Hills (0-4).
Irvine 21, Capistrano Valley 34--Kelly Roda ran 17:46 to win and Jennifer Gillis ran 18:01 to finish second for host Irvine (4-0).
Mission Viejo 25, El Toro 30--Sonja Hildbrand (20:04) set a course record for host Mission Viejo (4-0). Shannon Liddy (20:44) was El Toro’s (2-2) top finisher.
In an Angelus League boys’ meet:
Santa Margarita 21, Mater Dei 38--Mike Mazza won in 16:43 for host Santa Margarita.
In an Angelus League girls’ meet:
Santa Margarita 27, Mater Dei 30--Christen Matheson of Santa Margarita ran 19:56 to win for host Santa Margarita.
In a Freeway League boys’ meet:
Fullerton 25, Troy 30--Peter Skuben ran 17:55 to lead Fullerton to victory at the Fullerton Oil Fields.
In a Freeway League girls’ meet:
Fullerton 23, Troy 35--Gisela Lopez ran 21:05 to lead the Indians at the Fullerton Oil Fields.
In Garden Grove League boys’ meets:
Rancho Alamitos 15, Bolsa Grande 46--Eddie Espinoza (17:01) finished first overall for Rancho Alamitos (2-2) in a double-dual meet that included a 17-44 victory over Pacifica at Mile Square Park. Bolsa Grande is 0-4.
Pacifica 24, Bolsa Grande 31--Jamie Brooks (17:24) was fourth overall but the top finisher for Pacifica, which also lost to Rancho Alamitos, 15-46, in a double-dual meet at Mile Square Park.
In a Garden Grove League girls’ meet:
Bolsa Grande 19, Pacifica 36--Jennifer Miller (22:06) led Bolsa Grande (3-1) in a double-dual meet that included a 19-36 victory over Rancho Alamitos at Mile Square Park.
In an Olympic League boys’ meet:
Orange Lutheran 22, Valley Christian 34--Travis Haynes ran 17:17 for visiting Orange Lutheran.
In an Olympic League girls’ meet:
Orange Lutheran 16, Valley Christian 43--Heather Salisbury won in 20:33 for visiting Orange Lutheran.
In Orange League boys’ meets:
Anaheim 21, Savanna 40--Oscar Malo finished first in 15:59 for Anaheim (3-0) at La Palma Park. Jose Felix (16:17) was second for Anaheim.
Magnolia 24, Brea-Olinda 31--Justin Curley of Brea-Olinda won the three-mile race in 17:30 and Eloy Gomez of Magnolia (18:58) was second.
Valencia 24, Western 43--Jay Anderson of Western won in 16:13 at home. Sergio Victoria of Valencia was second in 16:40. The Tigers (3-1) took second through eighth place.
In an Orange League girls’ meet:
Valencia 17, Western 45--Yvette Flores won in 20:11 for Valencia (4-0) at Western.
In a Pacific Coast League boys’ meet:
Estancia 25, Trabuco Hills 30--Freshman Carrie Appell of Estancia won in 20:30 at Fairview Park. She has won all three league races for Estancia (3-0).
In a Pacific Coast League girls’ meet:
Estancia 19, Trabuco Hills 36--Robert Ho won in 16:57 at Fairview Park for host Estancia (3-0).
In Sunset League boys’ meets:
Santa Ana 19, Edison 43--Juan Ramirez (15:57) was first for Santa Ana (4-0) at Irvine Park. Eddy Sakai was second (16:04) to lead Edison. Santa Ana placed third through eighth to win easily.
Fountain Valley 27, Huntington Beach 28--Scott Urner of Huntington Beach, the seventh-ranked team in the county, won in 15:52, but Fountain Valley’s Mark Sanchez (15:55), Mark White (16:10) and Carl Hansen took second, fourth and fifth for the upset at Central Park.
