HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Royal Extends League Streak to 45 Victories
Royal High extended its Marmonte League water polo winning streak to 45 matches and repelled Thousand Oaks’ bid for the league lead with a 12-3 win Thursday at Rancho Simi Pool in Simi Valley.
In a battle of league co-leaders, Royal, ranked seventh in the Southern Section 3-A Division, shut Thousand Oaks down with a pressing defense and strong play from goalies Ralph Radka and Paul Krueger, who combined for 15 saves.
Five players scored two goals each for Royal (13-3, 4-0).
Thousand Oaks is 8-7, 3-1.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Thousand Oaks d. Agoura, 15-3, 15-7, 15-1--Visiting Thousand Oaks, ranked fifth in the Southern Section 5-A Division, pounced on Agoura (4-4 in Marmonte League play). Aimee Stone had 10 kills and Jennifer Streltzoff six kills and 20 assists for Thousand Oaks (11-1, 8-0).
Royal d. Newbury Park, 15-12, 15-7, 7-15, 9-15, 15-10--Wende Brown had 31 kills, a single-match school record, to lead Royal in a Marmonte League match at Newbury Park. Jennifer Hamilton added 15 kills for Royal (9-1, 7-1).
Notre Dame d. Alemany, 15-5, 15-6, 15-3--Mary Strong had 11 kills and Jill Howden had 11 service points to lead host Notre Dame in a Mission League match.
Notre Dame (8-2, 4-0) has won eight consecutive matches and is ranked second in the Southern Section 4-A Division.
Burroughs d. Schurr, 15-6, 11-15, 15-6, 15-1--Jennifer Wagner had 27 kills and Carmen Gutierrez added 10 for Burroughs (11-1, 4-0) in a Foothill League match at home.
Taft d. Reseda, 15-6, 15-2, 14-16, 15-9--Sarah White, with 14 kills, was the main beneficiary of setter Dara Kaskinen, who had 24 assists for Taft (6-1, 3-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Taft.
El Camino Real d. Cleveland, 15-3, 15-5, 15-5--Jennifer Dinaberg had 13 kills for host El Camino Real (6-0, 3-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Chatsworth d. Kennedy, 15-3, 15- 13, 15-0--Heather Gorman and Jody Paperno each had seven kills for Chatsworth (7-0, 3-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at home.
Village Christian d. Montclair Prep, 15-3, 15-4, 15-5--Jennifer Kossuth had 19 kills for host Village Christian (7-1, 4-0 in Alpha League play).
Moorpark d. Bishop Diego, 15-5, 15-10, 15-6--Kristie Evans led Moorpark (8-0, 4-0) with nine kills in a Tri-Valley League match at Moorpark.
