SHORT TAKES : Nolte Courts Success in Role
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Actor Nick Nolte is studying lawyers in his adopted hometown to prepare for a role as a defense attorney in the upcoming film “Cape Fear.”
Nolte, who starred in films including “Another 48 HRS.,” “North Dallas Forty” and the recent “Q&A;,” has been doing research at the Kanawha County courthouse and jail this week.
“My problem is to see how lawyers function with clients,” Nolte said Monday.
In “Cape Fear,” Nolte will play a lawyer who withholds information that could clear a client charged with rape. The client, played by Robert De Niro, is convicted but seeks revenge years later.
Filming will begin Nov. 15 for “Cape Fear,” a remake of the 1962 movie of the same name, which starred Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum.
Nolte lives in Charleston when he is not working.
