UAL’s Unions Form Negotiating Group: The unions at United Airlines, in an unusual display of unity, formed a group, called the United Employee Coalition, to develop common contract negotiating strategy. The unions, whose members include the pilots, flight attendants and mechanics, said the group was needed to counteract what it called the company’s “aggressive labor negative” negotiating tactics. A bid by the unions to buy parent UAL Corp. recently collapsed due to lack of financing.
