WORLD : Love-Struck Swede Left in Lurch
STOCKHOLM — A love-struck Swede who spent more than $16,000 to place a newspaper advertisement proposing marriage to his girlfriend got some unexpected answers today after the paper failed to arrive at the home they share.
“Asa, will you marry me?” said the ad in bold letters on a full page in today’s Svenska Dagbladet. Underneath, Magnus Andersson, 28, had put his first name and work telephone number as a clue for his 29-year-old girlfriend, Asa.
“I couldn’t believe it when the newspaper didn’t come this morning,” Andersson said.
“A lot of other girls have called but not her. I hope she reads the paper at work today,” he said.
An official at Svenska Dagbladet said it cost $16,840 to place a full-page ad in the paper.
“It was worth all of it. I am very much in love,” Andersson said.
