SANTA ANA : Alzheimer’s Victim Drowns in Pool
A 91-year-old Lemon Heights man stricken with Alzheimer’s disease apparently drowned in a neighbor’s swimming pool after wandering away from his home Monday, authorities said Tuesday.
Louis Vassalotti’s body was found at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, floating in a swimming pool at a residence in the 11500 block of Cielo Place, about two blocks from the victim’s house, Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said.
Vassalotti, who was last seen around noon Monday, has a history of wandering away from the home to communities as far away as Fullerton and Anaheim, Olson said.
Foul play is not suspected and an autopsy is scheduled for today.
Vassalotti and his 90-year-old wife, who also has Alzheimer’s disease, live with their daughter, who works full time during the day, Olson said.
“He has wandered away from his residence numerous times in the past, and there is really no way to keep an eye on him while the daughter is at work.”
