A woman who was stopped at a Simi Valley intersection was the victim of an apparently random drive-by shooting, police said Tuesday.

Bertha Santoyo, 38, of Simi Valley escaped the shooting Monday at 10:48 p.m. without sustaining serious injuries, said Simi Valley Police Sgt. Fred James.

Santoyo’s vehicle was stopped at a stop sign at Pacific Avenue and 1st Street when a burnt-orange van pulled alongside, James said.

A man in the passenger seat of the van fired numerous shots, James said.

Santoyo’s nose was cut by glass, but she was not shot, James said. She drove away and was treated at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital.
