It was an emotional return to Philadelphia for Tim Kerr Tuesday night.

Unfortunately for the Flyers, the emotion didn’t carry over to their play on the ice as they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins, 6-2.

It was the first game for Kerr since his wife, Kathy, died Oct. 16 from complications of child birth.

Pittsburgh (6-6-1) won its second consecutive game and third in its last four while extending the Flyers’ losing streak to four games.

Kerr took regular shifts; his lone shot on goal came during the first period. He was stopped by Frank Pietrangelo on a pad save near the crease at 7:40.

Philadelphia (6-6-0) outshot the Penguins, 24-10, through the first two periods, but Pietrangelo kept Pittsburgh in the game with several difficult saves. He stopped 33 shots.

Calgary 6, New Jersey 3--Joel Otto scored two power-play goals in the second period, including his 100th in the NHL, during the Flames’ victory over the Devils at Calgary.

Dave Lowry added two goals for the Blues (8-3-1), who posted their fourth consecutive victory while ending the Red Wings’ (6-4-3) six-game home-ice winning streak.

Washington 2, Vancouver 1--Dave Tippett scored at 16:05 of the third period to lift the Capitals over the Canucks at Vancouver.

Tim Bergland scored the other Washington goal as the Capitals (7-7-0) ended a five-game trip with three victories.
