An unemployed man who went fishing to kill time reeled in two bronze statues that had been stolen from a recent art exhibition, the national news agency NTB reported today.

Algot Hansen, who fishes as a hobby, could hardly believe his eyes when he saw a statue by Norway’s prominent artist Per Ung on the hook.

“I was even more surprised when I got another statue a bit further out in the fiord,” Hansen was quoted as saying.

The statues were worth $17,000, according to Ung, 57, who said they were stolen two weeks ago from an exhibition in Oslo.

“I never thought I would see them again,” Ung said.
