ATLANTA —
An AIDS patient running in the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thursday died of heart failure near the end of the race.
Charles Barden, 37, of Stone Mountain was running in the middle of the 5,000-runner pack when he collapsed in the 11th mile of the 13.1-mile race.
Atlanta Track Club spokeswoman Julia Emmons said efforts to revive Barden on the sidewalk failed.
Barden was not a member of the club, which sponsors the annual Thanksgiving Atlanta Marathon, 26.2 miles, and the Half Marathon.
