Flood Warnings Posted for Rivers as New Rain Pelts Wet Northwest
A Pacific storm triggered showers over the the Washington coast on Friday as moist ocean air brought more precipitation to areas already soaked by several days of rain, weather officials said.
Flood warnings were posted for several western Washington rivers.
At the same time, winds gusted to nearly 50 m.p.h. across much of Washington state, with gusts to 70 m.p.h. near Hanford. Blowing dust caused some local road closures, including Interstate 82 near the Oregon border, National Weather Service officials said.
A high wind watch was in effect into today over northwestern, eastern and south-central Wyoming.
Snow was expected in the northwest mountains of Montana, and blowing snow was forecast for the north-central mountains of Wyoming.
The north-central part of the nation also received snow on Friday while rain fell across the Midwest, Gulf Coast and much of the Eastern Seaboard.
Showers also reached into Kentucky, the lower Midwest and western Pennsylvania. New York and Maine had widely scattered rain, weather officials said.
Temperatures around the nation ranged from 15 degrees at International Falls, Minn., to 86 in Brownsville, Tex.
