Arroyo Grande 31, Serra 0--The Eagles came on in the second half to hand Serra its first loss in 24 games, clinching a berth in next week’s Southern Section Division VII championship. Serra (10-1), the defending champion, hadn’t lost in two years under Coach Leo Hand. Arroyo Grande (11-1) was led by running back Josh Whitaker, who scored two touchdowns on runs of 39 and five yards.
Arlington 17, Glendora 10--Senior running back Walter Alexander gained 112 yards in 18 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead the Lions to the Southern Section Division IV victory at Citrus College. Arlington (10-3) maintained possession for 11 minutes in the third quarter. Glendora finished 11-2.
Banning 20, Kennedy 10--The Pilots marked their return to the playoffs after an uncharacteristic absence in 1989 by beating the Golden Cougars in a City 4-A quarterfinal at Gardena High.
Running back Travis Davis led Banning with two touchdowns. He finished with 114 yards in 20 carries. He also played defense and intercepted two passes. He also had a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter.
