Dillon Helps Valhalla Gets Past Southwest

The Valhalla boys’ basketball team trailed by five at halftime but a high-scoring third quarter helped boost the Norsemen to a 68-64 victory over Southwest at the Norsemen/Warhawk Tournament at Valhalla Saturday.

Valhalla (2-0) outscored Southwest 23-6 in the third quarter to lead 51-39 going into the final quarter of the game. Mark Dillon led the Norsemen with 22 points and teammate Mike Nalu scored 17.

Hilltop Tournament

Sweetwater 68, Mira Mesa 45--Melvin Rushing scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds for Sweetwater. Mendel Nafaneck and Patereos Woodson each scored 16 points for Sweetwater. Guillermo Arcadia led Sweetwater with 12 rebounds.

Kearny 85, Chula Vista 50--Jerome Green scored 19 points for Chula Vista. Kearny led, 52-28, at halftime.

Hilltop 53, Point Loma 38--Courtney Brown scored 20 points for Hilltop. Point Loma was led by Eddie Greer with 11 points.

Bonita Vista 68, La Jolla 33--Bonita Vista took a 31-9 halftime lead. Rope Perry scored 14 points for La Jolla.

Redwood Classic

Marian Catholic 66, Mendocino 60--Marian trailed by 17 at the end of the third quarter but outscored Mendocino, 26-9, in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. Marian (3-1) then outscored Mendocino, 6-0, in overtime. Joe Lagula led Marian with 29 points and 13 rebounds. JaMarr Brown added 25.
