Girl to Be Tried as Adult in 2-Death Crash
A Dec. 18 Superior Court trial has been set for a 16-year-old girl who will be tried as an adult for drunken driving and two counts of vehicular manslaughter.
Angelena Jessie Lopez of Vista was driving with a learner’s permit when she lost control of a car and killed two pedestrians on June 30.
Her blood alcohol level after the accident tested as 0.18%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%.
Lopez escaped serious injury but three passengers in the car were hurt, including a 19-year-old who was in a coma for 2 1/2 months.
Lopez will be tried on two counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, two felony counts of causing injuries while driving under the influence of alcohol, and a misdemeanor count of driving without a license. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison, Deputy Dist. Atty. Jeff Fraser said.
