Riverboat Gambling Loses 2 Out of 3
Associated Press
BILOXI, Miss. — Riverboat gambling was narrowly approved in a referendum in one Gulf Coast county, but voters in two other counties rejected the idea of floating casinos along their docks.
Hancock County said yes to gambling Tuesday by a vote of 4,246 to 4,004, but Harrison County rejected it 18,490 to 17,463, and Jackson County voters rejected it 15,351 to 9,508.
The Mississippi Legislature in June approved riverboat gambling along the Mississippi River and Gulf Coast, except in counties that prohibit it by referendum.
