Want to do more than just listen to Handel’s “Messiah” this year?

Well, you can sing it today at 2 p.m. at the Norris Theatre for the Performing Arts in Rolling Hills Estates. Two church choirs with 60 singers, a 25-member orchestra and four soloists will lead the free Messiah Sing-Along. “The audience will be the sing-along and listen-along chorus,” said Craig Fenter, the conductor and music director at the Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes Estates.

Fenter said the afternoon’s entertainment is for people who have always wanted to sing in public “but say they’re not good enough to sing with a great chorus.” The two-hour performance will feature the Christmas portion--otherwise known as Part I--of “Messiah” and most choruses from the remainder of the work, including the famous “Hallelujah.”

Before the singing, harpist Stephanie Bennett will play her own arrangements of holiday music. Choirs participating in the “Messiah” will be from the Neighborhood and Rolling Hills United Methodist churches. Soloists are Margaret Scheeper, soprano; Sharon Tanabe, mezzo-soprano; Carl Rudolph, tenor, and Bob Wright, bass.

People who want to join in the sing-along must bring their own music and should come early because seating is limited to 400. The Norris is at Crossfield Drive and Indian Peak Road.
