Malibu : Mountains Trust Honored
The Mountains Restoration Trust has been named a recipient of a Take Pride in California award from the California Department of Parks and Recreation for its efforts in helping preserve the Santa Monica Mountains.
The trust, which is a private, nonprofit land trust that helps acquire private land for public parkland, was among 37 groups and individuals given the award this month by state Parks Director Henry Agonia. The award honors individuals, and public and private groups that conduct outstanding stewardship programs.
Since it was formed in 1981, the Mountains Restoration Trust has acquired 1,272 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains for transfer to state and federal park systems. It also operates the 675-acre Cold Creek Canyon Preserve near Malibu.
