American Airlines to Buy Some Eastern Assets: Continuing a trend of acquiring assets of weaker air carriers, American Airlines said it has agreed to buy a package of route authorities and facilities from Eastern Airlines for $10 million. It includes Eastern’s route authority between New York-Newark and Montreal-Ottawa, two gates at Montreal’s Dorval Airport, 10 slots at New York’s La Guardia Airport, gate facilities at Nashville, Tenn., Orlando, Fla., and Hartford, Conn., and other assets. The deal must be approved by the Transportation Department and the federal court overseeing Eastern’s bankruptcy reorganization.
